Woman becomes internet sensation, receives tonnes of gifts after revealing she wakes at 5am to cook for her husband

Deborah Loveth, popularly known as ‘Debbie,’ has become a social media sensation in Nigeria, attracting a flood of generous gifts after revealing that she wakes up daily at 4:50 am to prepare breakfast for her husband.

On January 4, 2023, Debbie shared her story on X, formerly Twitter, saying, “I’ve always been too lazy to wake up and get his lunch ready. But the day he told me a colleague brought two spoons so he would eat with her was the day I set my alarm for 4:50 am.”

While the post stirred controversy and received backlash from some X users questioning the need for such sacrifices, it also prompted an outpouring of support from numerous companies and well-wishers.

Amid the criticisms, a wave of donations ranging from phones and cars to free internet, scholarships, plots of land, and financial contributions has flooded Debbie’s timeline. Some individuals even inquired about her husband’s shoe size, while others sought delivery details.

“Hello Debbie, please ask your husband to choose one from these agbada designs; I will gift him one for free,” tweeted Celebrity Tailor.

“You and your family need health insurance. I’ll be paying your family’s health insurance for a complete calendar year,” stated a renowned health professional and influencer in another tweet.

“Hi, good afternoon. My name is Tunde, and I make furniture. If you don’t mind, I would love to gift you a bed frame. Kindly pick any of these, and if they are not to your taste, I will gladly make your preferred kind of bed,” wrote Tunde.

Apart from material and services, the couple has reportedly received financial support totaling over 5 million Naira.

“Where’s the tweet with my account number again? Please, it’s okay, I’m scared,” Debbie tweeted alongside a screenshot displaying a payment of 2 million Naira into her account.

In a recent statement, Debbie’s husband described her as his “God in human form.”

This scenario bears resemblance to a similar incident in South Africa in 2019 when Hector Kansi and Nonhlanhla Soldaat received widespread support and sponsorships for their dream wedding after Kansi proposed to Soldaat at a KFC restaurant. The couple did not contribute financially to the wedding, as sponsors generously covered the expenses.
