The Wum Community in the United Arab Emirates, UAE, have resolved to offer assistance to orphans back home — who lost their parents as a results of the bloody conflict in country’s English-speaking regions.

The resolution was arrived at in an annual meeting of the Wum Cultural Hub, UAE on March 18, 2023. The gathering was aimed at reviewing their activities, welfare and their impact back home.

Chaired by the President of Wum Community in the UAE Mr Zindong Benjamin, the meeting was attended by over 67 sons and daughters from Wum and 33 well wishers from other parts of the region.

The Patron of the group Dr Akah Aaron from Saudi Arabia also attended the meeting.

Reviewing their past activities back home, the President said, “We have in the past assisted 10 families affected by the crisis by providing financial aid.”

“We have visited 10 prisoners of conscience in Yaounde linking to the crisis in 2021. Glory to God they were released,” he told MMI.

Regarding their next plan of action, they promised to focus on orphans whose present predicaments have been the direct impact of the near six years armed conflict in the North West and South West Regions.

“Our next project for this year is to assist orphans who lost their parents during the crisis,” Mr Zindong went on adding that: “Research is ongoing back home.”

The annual general meeting also provided an opportunity for them to advise each other on their well-being im the UAE.

According to the president of the Community, “Having this association has been our number one top priority to be our brothers keeper in the diaspora and to assist those back home.”

Given the difficulties faced by Cameroonians in UAE from Visa acquisition to securing a job they were advised to take their jobs seriously and be law abiding.
