The President Paul Biya of the Republic of Cameroon, Paul Biya and wife Chantal have sent a condolence message to families of persons who perished in a Sunday January 24 explosion at a nightclub in the nation’s capital. 16 persons were roasted to death in that incident.

The condolence message is the content of a correspondence , the President addressed to the Governor of the Centre region, Paul Naeri Bea, Tuesday January 25.

According to Biya and wife: “The dramatic fire that broke out on the night of January 23 to 24, 2022, in the premises of Liv’s Nightclub in Yaoundé, caused many deaths and injuries” .

The Presidential couple opined that: “In this painful circumstance, which has deeply afflicted the population of the city of Yaoundé, you will kindly convey my most saddened condolences to the bereaved families, as well as my wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured”.

The letter also talked of the “compassionate solidarity of my Spouse”, Chantal Biya”.

Before now, Biya had ordered for investigations into the incident. This is according to Communication Minister, Rene Emmanuel Sadi. Sadi also said, the Head of State had prescribed the treatment of those wounded in the explosion.

A waiter who survived the incident said it started like an electric spark in the ceiling before later deteriorating. Among those who died in the incident was Dr Fanne Mahamat.

She was a Director at the Ministry of Public Health. She is said to have died alongside her brother.
