The Yaounde-based activist Sebastien Ebala has been released after spending several hours at the Ekounou court cells in Yaoundé for insulting women from the English-speaking Regions and the Bamouns.
Contrary to media reports that he had been transferred to Kondengui Central Prison, the activist has rather been freed to the dismay of many, who chastised him for calling Anglophone women living in Yaoundé “dirty and unkempt”.
He was arrested on Tuesday, May 16, and presented before the Public Prosecutor of Ekounou, who, after examining the accusations against Ebala, opted to release him.
Last week, he made a love video that went viral, in which he insulted women from the English-speaking Regions who are living in Yaounde, calling them dirty.
He also made derogatory statements against the Bamouns and Mboudas of the West Region, prompting condemnation across the board.
Few days after the video, he was summoned by Lt. Col Dieudonne Bialo, head of Central Judicial Research Service at the National Gendarmerie in Yaoundé.
But he failed to appear for the summons, leading to his recent arrest.
