Some portions of the Nkoabang market has been destroyed leaving traders stranded, MMI has gathered.

Inhabitants got up Thursday September 14 2022 to see the market going down in ruins.

Security forces on the instructions of a local council in Yaounde descended on the market putting down structures to the ground.

Reports say security forces in the course of the destruction looted from shops.

MMI gathered the said market was operating on a private land leaving the council with nothing to benefit.

Other sources say the destruction was to pave way for traders to relocate to a new market constructed by the council.

“Business persons woke up this morning to discover that the market is being destroyed” a source told MMI.

The source further said, “they were informed to vacate the premises on the basis that the market isn’t recognized because its was built on private land own by some families in the area and prevented the local council from having anything to do with the market as they controlled them by themselves”

“So, the local council built a new market in a nearby quarter called Biteng but there is no access road the new market” the source continued adding that “this is the second time this is being done here in Nkoabang. Some business persons are frustrated and many are unconscious. Police men have stollen from many shops”.
