A young woman in Yaounde named Brenda has died after struggling with mental health challenges. She had previously attempted suicide last Saturday but was rescued and hospitalised. After recovering, she assured her loved ones she would not try again. Tragically, she later ingested poison at home and passed away, reports say.

Friends and family have confirmed that rumours circulating on social media—linking her death to pregnancy or assault—are false. Brenda’s boyfriend was present at the hospital during her first attempt and offered support. Before her death, she left a note expressing deep emotional distress.

Depression is a serious condition that affects many people silently. Brenda’s story highlights the importance of recognising mental health challenges, seeking help early, and supporting those who are struggling.

Communities in Cameroon face limited mental health resources, and stigma often prevents individuals from speaking out or seeking care. Awareness, understanding, and access to professional support can save lives. Families, friends, and communities are encouraged to provide care, listen actively, and help those struggling connect with trained professionals.

Brenda’s tragic death is a reminder that mental health is a critical part of overall well-being. By taking steps to support mental health, communities can reduce suffering and help individuals find hope, strength, and healing.
