Cameroon’s teenage sensation, Faith Fidel has been nominated alongside three other Cameroonian actors/comedians out of 38 from across different African countries, for the SOTIGUI Awards, scheduled to take place from November 11-13, 2021 in Burkina Faso’s capital, Ouagadougou.
The actors, Eshu Rigobert Tamwa, Emy Danny Bassong, Merveille Akamba, and Faith Fidel have been placed under separate award categories.
The list of the nominees was released by the Academy of African and Diasporan Cinematographic Arts, who are in charge of the Organization of the SOTIGUI Awards.
This year’s edition of the SOTIGUI Awards will be held under the banner “Status of the Artist and Fair Remuneration of actors and actresses of African cinema and the diaspora.”
The categories under which the four Cameroonian actors have been nominated are: Best Male Actor in Africa, represented by Eshu Rigobert for his role as Mr Mbarga in the Cameroon series “Madame… Monsieur.” Emy Danny Bassong has been nominated under the Best Female Actress category for her role in the same series.
Faith Fidel is nominated as Best African Hope, after her outstanding performance as Ekah, in the International hit movie “The Fisherman’s Diary.”
The final Cameroonian nominee, Merveille Akamba is under the category for Best Central African Actor, thanks to his performance in the Cameroonian Movie, “Bendskin.”
Talking to the media in Yaoundé, President of the SOTIGUI Awards, Kevin Moné said his goal is “To contribute to the recognition and enhancement of the profession of actors/comedians in African cinemas.”
He adds that this year’s edition will witness some major innovations which are geared to improve on Africa’s cinema. “There is the establishment of a social network called ‘Mov’Up’ which will be dedicated only to African Film and audiovisual professionals…” He revealed.
The winners of the Awards as elaborated, will be gotten by votes, which as revealed by former SOTIGUI winner François Akouabou, will begin on September 15th on the SOTIGUI Awards page.
