At least seven people have been killed and dozens injured following an overnight Russian missile and drone strike in the Kyiv region, according to Ukrainian officials. The coordinated attack allegedly targeted residential areas, hospitals, and sports infrastructure. It also marks one of the largest assaults on the Ukrainian capital in recent weeks.
Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko confirmed the death toll early Monday in a post on social media. “Critical infrastructure and civilian areas were struck by missiles and drones. Rescue operations are ongoing,” he said.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that six of the fatalities occurred in a single high-rise residential building in the capital. He added that at least 22 others were injured. “This was another difficult night for Kyiv. Emergency services are continuing to assist residents and clear debris,” Klitschko said.
Hospital and Civilian Areas Damaged
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service released footage of emergency personnel escorting survivors from damaged and burning buildings. In the city of Bila Tserkva, south of Kyiv, one person was reportedly killed after a drone strike hit a hospital.
In total, it is alleged that 352 Russian drones and 16 missiles were launched in the latest barrage. The majority of the attack was concentrated on the Kyiv area. According to Ukrainian officials, the strikes were part of Russia’s recent strategy to overwhelm air defences with mass deployments of drones, missiles, and decoys. These numbers have not been corroborated by other objective sources.
Thousands of Kyiv residents sought shelter in the early hours of the morning as the city was rocked by explosions. The recent wave of attacks comes less than a week after another large-scale strike that killed 28 people and injured over 100.
Ukrainian Military Response and Strategic Shift
Ukrainian commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrsky addressed reporters on Monday, vowing to intensify military operations. “We will not just sit in defence because this brings nothing and eventually leads to the fact that we still retreat, losing people and territories,” Syrsky said.
President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected in London today for talks with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer regarding military aid. The visit follows the cancellation of a planned meeting with former US President Donald Trump during the recent G7 summit, which Trump left early due to escalating events in the Middle East.
Zelensky is also scheduled to attend a dinner during a NATO summit in The Netherlands starting Tuesday.

As Ukraine continues to face Russian missile attacks, global attention is increasingly shifting toward the Middle East following Israel’s unprovoked strike on Iranian territory on June 13, 2025.
