Cameroon’s former international footballer, Modeste Mbami has refused to take over responsibility as the team manager of the junior lions of Cameroon. Appointed through decision No 060/FECAFOOT/PDT/2019 on the 15th November, Mbami has opted not to be part of what he described as ‘a failed venture’.In a document circulating on the social media bearing the signature of Modeste Mbami, the former midfielder at the national football team states that he was never consulted as the regulation stipulates prior to his appointment by FECAFOOT.To him, the method gives the impression that the appointment does not have as objective to reform football in Cameroon for the better but as means to satisfy some personal interest. To Mbami, the shabby treatment given to former Cameroon international footballers when they are appointed does not guarantee that he will be respected and allow to work effectively for the interest of football in Cameroon. He concludes that professional football is facing enormous challenges in Cameroon. In Mbami’s words “Football is going through a turbulent zone” and thus appointments should not be a disguised form of humiliation to those who have in the past serve the nation faithfully on the green turf. The entire technical bench of the junior lions of Cameroon was appointed on the 15th of November to work ahead of 2020 CHAN to be hosted by Cameroon.
