Many have been taken by surprise as Alice Sadio of the Alliance for Progressive Forces, AFP political party has announced her resignation as President.
Alice before now had acted as the party’s National President and Secretary General of the Platform for the New Republic.
In a letter Tuesday, she notes that her resignation “takes effect from today, January 28, 2020” failing to state reasons for her sudden decision.
“In accordance with the statutory provisions (art 54, al. 1, 2), the First Vice-president or any other member co-opted by the Political Bureau will act in the interim until the convocation of the next elective Congress deferred due to the convocation of the corps and the party’s decision to take part” she adds. Alice Sadio is also not going to be member of the party she has led for four years.
Following her decision to leave the party, many have been speculating who might become her successor.
Her resignation comes barely days before the February 9 elections which a number of parties have resolved to boycott citing bad electoral laws and the Anglophone crisis.
While some suggest she is likely to join another party, others say they believe she will seek a different conquest this time.
Alic Sadio who has always believed, the quality of governance after the present regime shall depend on the quality of men who will be involved in the political struggle, has not ceased to criticise failures of current regime, calling for change.
