On Friday night breaking Saturday August 3, 2019, a local authority in Bamenda III Subdivision, whose name Mimi Mefo Info is withholding for security reasons, was attacked by armed men.

The armed men who stormed the area at 11:00pm took more than an hour to break the iron door of the victim’s house before carting away with valuables, Mimi Mefo Info has learnt.

“They got him beaten and his 18-year-old first son. His son was rushed to the hospital that night where he is currently receiving treatment,” our source said. “They took phones, iPads, laptops and other items we’re still to discover.”

As we sought to know the identity of the perpetrators, we were told the attackers told their victims that they were not separatist fighters.
“After they pleaded to be spared thinking Amba boys were responsible, the armed men said: ‘Shut up! We no be amba call me thief man! We be thief people”.
This could be loosely translated as “…we are not amba, we are thieves…”

Security forces who are deployed all over the town were not quick to react.

“Military cars only arrived some minutes after the thieves had gone. They were about eight in number, no bike, no vehicle and spoke broken French,” our source noted.

Cases of attacks in households at night has constantly been reported from the restive Northwest and Southwest regions.
