Cameroonian web journalist, Paul Chouta is currently nursing injuries after he was abducted and tortured in the country’s capital city, Yaounde.
Chouta was abducted at the Damas neighborhood in the night of Wednesday March 09 as he watched a champions league game at a relaxation spot.
He was taken by his abductors to Nsimalen on the outskirts of the town where he was stripped, tortured and left for death.
Chouta’s latest misfortune comes barely months after he was released from the Kondengui Prison in Yaounde.
He was arbitrarily held at the facility, at the behest of a writer.
He was arrested on May 28, 2019 and detained at maximum security Prison where he was denied bail. He was only released on May 20 2021, after his case at the Mfoundi high court was postponed over 25 times.
Chouta ironically spent a longer time behind bars than his 23 months sentence. He was also ordered to pay a fine of 160,000 CFA francs and a further 2 million CFA francs in damages.
His latest attack is believed to again be related to his work, as the web journalist has often fallen out with those in positions of power for his critical reporting.
