Bomaka – Buea: Women protest lack of basic utilities

Women living in Bomaka, a village in Buea Sub Division in the South West have decried authorities’ neglect after going over three months without electricity and consequently, no portable water.

Today Monday June 7th 2021, the women staged a peaceful protest from Bomaka to the office of the Division Officer of Buea Sub Division.

According to one of the women “We have gone for three months without water. We travel a long distance to get water”.

“… Some of us women are smelling because of the absence of water. How can a woman bath with a cup of water?” she questioned in total frustration.

To another, locals in Bomaka village fetch water from boreholes that are powered by electricity to ensure the flow of water. With the prolonged absence of water “… We don’t also have electricity. Our kids will be starting examinations soon. They use candles and bush lamps to read. That is not normal”.

Bomaka shares boundaries with Mile 16 Bolifamba believed to be one of the epicenters of insecurity in Buea sub division.

With prolonged blackout, inhabitants say insecurity is gaining steam as men of the underworld take advantage of the darkness to steal.

Administrative authorities have made no official remark following today’s protest.
