CAMBRIS-AF tackles water crisis: donates borehole to School, Bomaka Community in Buea

Soldiers and officers of Cameroonian descent serving in the British Armed Forces grouped under the Cameroon British Soldiers and Armed Forces Association, known by its acronym, CAMBRIS-AF, have constructed and donated a water borehole to a primary school and a community in Buea, South West region of Cameroon.

The project dubbed the “Giving Back Initiative” aimed at providing sustainable clean water, upon completion was handed to Zinadal Kindergarten and Primary school and the entire Bomaka community, in a symbolic ceremony Wednesday, October 2, 2022.

“Children and people do not have the right source of water to drink. So we thought that if you want to help someone you can give two things at once”, said Ernest Mofo, head of the CMBRIS-AF delegation.

“Children leave this school and walk over a long distance to get water. Getting water in the school is not only going to solve the problem of water shortage but will make sure that they get the right source of water” Ernest Mofo added.

Bomaka is one of the many rural communities that have suffered from cholera epidemics arising from the poor quality of water consumed by locals.

“This is one of those communities that were indexed for cholera. So, there was a real need for more water. The community is happy with this relief”, Ngwa Raymond, a Bomaka community leader told reporters.

Pupils on their part expressed joy, thanking donors for saving them the stress of trekking over long distances to get water for their daily activities.

“We will use the water to drink, bath, and dry clean. We will not go far again to get water. We thank them” a visibly happy pupil said.

According to the coordinator of the project Ntum Eric Ngoh, “Borehole water is the kind of acceptable drinking water by humans because it comes from far the ground. This one is 60metres deep”

The project was realised based on a project conceived in conformity with the mission of CAMBRIS-AF.

“It is not only here. We have carried out activities like this in the UK and why not give back where we come from”, said the head of the delegation adding, “When we came up with the idea, we developed a magazine which we sold throughout the UK. We organised fundraising and that is the money we used”

During the COVID-19 pandemic, CAMBRIS-AF organised the Run for Heroes, raising funds for the UK National Health Service, and provided assistance to the Bamenda Regional Hospital.
