62 private secondary schools in four regions in Cameroon have been banned by the Ministry of Secondary Education for operating without due authorization.
Following the list made public July 29, 2019, the decision follows a report of an identification and control mission of the national control brigade for private schools and information provided by the technical department.
In the Centre Region, 14 schools have been shut down, 22 in the Littoral, three in the East and two in the South region of Cameroon.
Six other regions in Cameroon have not been affected by the sanction.
The list of clandestine secondary schools in Cameroon comes a month to official school resumption on September 2, 2019.
Parents have been warned to take into consideration the legality of schools before registering their kids.
Each year, lists of clandestine schools both primary and secondary are made public before schools resume but these schools sometimes continue to operate without any repressive measure.
Owners of private schools complain that workers at regional delegations of primary and secondary education regularly collect money without processing their documents.
