Some media professionals will receive sanitary kits to prevent the coronavirus in the days ahead. Donated by the Cameroon English Newspaper Publishers Association (CENPA), the body says it’s to help them keep safe and carry out their duties during this period.
Talking to the CRTV today, CENPA’s President- Christian Ngah says the gesture targets media houses in Bamenda, Yaounde, Douala, Limbe, Buea and Bafoussam because journalists are more exposed to the virus due to the nature of their jobs.
“We thought that we could join this fight to protect our peers and colleagues against this global pandemic” he said.
The action he says comes to add to sensitisation being carried out through newspaper reports. “That is just our own little contribution as people who are working in the private media. It is not about the quality or quantity but the intention behind our gesture” he explained.
During this year’s World Press Freedom Day on May 3rd, Cameroon journalists listed the shortage of protective gear among the many challenges they face.
