Cameroonian comedian Cy International has raised an alarm, saying he is receiving serious threats simply because he endorsed Issa Tchiroma Bakary as his preferred candidate in the October 12, 2025 presidential election. He insisted that choosing a candidate is his right as a Cameroonian citizen.

Cy International said he has been receiving threatening calls from private numbers and disturbing messages from unknown people. Because of this, he has stayed away from social media for almost twenty days. He explained that he is not only being targeted for supporting Issa Tchiroma, but also because he previously spoke out against drug abuse among young people, against travel scammers, and against excessive consumption of foreign music and products. He said these groups of people now see him as an enemy and want to punish him.

The comedian added that he has always worked for the good of the nation. He said he fought to make the entertainment industry more visible, helped reduce drug abuse among youth, and assisted victims of travel scams. He also reminded the public that he stood with the government during the tense period of the Anglophone Crisis in 2017 and 2018, helping calm tensions at Buea Central Prison and organizing public events. He questioned why people would want to kill him after all these efforts, and said he is now living in hiding because of the repeated threats. He said he fears for his four children and will listen to their advice for his safety.

Cy International’s situation is not isolated. Several supporters of Issa Tchiroma Bakary have reported harassment and intimidation since the election. Some say they were warned not to show support for the opposition candidate, while others claim they were threatened online and even in their neighborhoods. In some towns, people have said they are afraid to speak openly because anyone linked to Issa Tchiroma faces pressure or suspicion. Tensions have been high nationwide after the disputed results, and many citizens now fear that political expression may lead to retaliation.

The comedian ended his message by saying he is not afraid of anyone who can harm the body, but he fears God who controls both life and soul. He begged for understanding and asked why a simple political choice should put his life at risk. His message has sparked reactions across social media, with many calling for the threats to stop and for authorities to protect the rights of all citizens, no matter their political views.
