Cameroonian entrepreneur narrates bitter bedbug experience in Douala Hotel

Cameroonian entrepreneur Adeline Sede has taken to social media to express her distressing experience with bedbugs during her stay at a hotel in Douala, in the Littoral region of Cameroon.

In a Facebook post, the founder of Fab Afrique Magazine and organiser of the Corporate Awards revealed the discomfort she faced with restless nights due to bites from bedbugs.

Recalling her ordeal, Adeline wrote, “I spent four days in a hotel last week and woke up on day two feeling all itchy and scratchy. I thought it was just a minor thing. My entire body was swollen the next day.”

She went on to disclose that she incurred wounds as she was compelled to incessantly scratch her body to relieve herself from the persistent itching.

“I visited my younger sister, who just had a baby, and carried an entire bottle of @sodo cream. I did not sleep at night and spent the entire time rubbing on the itchy parts, which were my entire body! My whole skin will be white, plus my face too,” the entrepreneur continued.

This complaint surfaces at a time when some localities in Yaoundé are reportedly grappling with a bedbug pandemic.

In a recent alert by the Divisional Officer of Yaounde, the administrative authority cautioned the 3rd-degree traditional chiefs in his jurisdiction about the risk of the spread of bedbugs in their neighbourhoods.

Moreover, in the past months, MMI has received several complaints from users of the Moghamo transport agency about their frequent ordeals with bedbugs.

It is important to note that bedbugs are parasitic insects that thrive away from light, in dark spaces such as bedrooms, chairs, and living rooms with sofas, according to specialists. The introduction of bedbugs is often linked to international travel and the development of resistance to insecticides.

Their rapid development underscores the urgency of intervention if they appear, aiming to minimise the extent of infestation as much as possible.
