Following the corona virus outbreak in China, several Cameroonians living in Wuhan the epicenter of the outbreak raised concerns regarding government’s care for them.

Days back, the Cameroon government released the sum of 20 million FCFA (about 33000 US Dollars) for their wellbeing.

Indomitable Lions striker, Christian Bassogog has also said he will donate the sum of $16,000 (close to 10 million FCFA) to Cameroon students living in China, as measures are being taken to keep them away from contamination.

“China has a special place in my heart and that’s where I ply my trade … This money is aimed at helping Cameroonian nationals living in China especially the students” the BBC quotes the 24 year old who recently got married.

Noting that “it’s important that we come together in such periods and show such support and love to the needy”, the BBC quotes him explaining the need for “more Cameroonians across the world to reach out and support not just their country men but also China as a nation.”

According to the BBC, the Henan Jianye player is in Yaounde at the moment as a result of football suspension in China due to the virus.

Pavel Daryl, the lone Cameroonian student in China to have contracted the virus was released from hospital weeks back making him the first African to not only have contracted the virus but also to have been treated of it.

In a release, the government revealed that of the about 300 Cameroon students living in China, close to 200 are based in Wuhan, the epicenter of the virus.
