The Committee to Protect Journalists, CPJ has added its voice to those of many to seek justice for journalist Samuel Wazizi.

Following news of his death, CPJ says the Cameroon government should respond to calls for justice for the pidgin news anchor at CMTV.

“We are extremely disturbed by recent reports of the journalist’s death in government custody, and demand that authorities immediately and publicly account for his status” says Angela Quintal, Africa Program Coordinator for the CPJ.

After reports of the journalist’s death went viral, CPJ says it reached out to the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Communications, and the Prime Minister’s office for comment. This was unsuccessful as it “did not receive any replies.”

Government, CPJ says should immediately disclose Wazizi’s whereabouts as well as his health and legal status.

Equinox television reported that Wazizi had died days after his arrest due to torture meted on him by the forces of law and order.
