Two months after the outbreak of coronavirus in Cameroon, positive cases now stand at 2579 with 121 hospitalised and 28 under respiratory assistance.
With 1465 patients said to have recovered, health minister- Manaouda Malachie announced that 114 have died from the virus in Cameroon so far.
This however sparked controversy, as media reports reveal that the other sources place the figures higher.
According to today’s edition of The Post newspaper, the French Council for External trade puts Cameroon’s COVID-19 death toll at 350.
This is not the first time COVID-19 figures in Cameroon are being questioned by the media and social media users. Some had accused the government of hiding the official numbers of patient’s when the virus broke out two months ago.
Government is yet to make any official statement on the supposed contradiction.
Despite uplifting some prevention measures including the operation of bars, restaurants and nightclubs, government says it is important to keep respect social distancing measures to curb the spread of the virus.
