Thousands of militants of Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM) party braved security forces in major towns in Cameroon today and took part in a peaceful protest, organised by party hierarchy.
As militants set out to march, the first National Vice President of the CRM party Mamadou Mocta was arrested in Yaounde alongside the Party’s South Regional Coordinator.
The Coordinator of MODECNA, Bruno Ndeffo was equally arrested.
The arrest which was followed by massive arrest at Marché Congo, did not stop other CRM militants in several different locations from taking part in the march.
At Ndokoti Roundabout in Douala 3, protesters were dispersed violently early this morning.
CRM Littoral head office at Grand Moulin neighbourhood was heavily militarized.
Sources within the party say eighty people (80), including militants and wellwishers, were arrested as they took part in the protest today.
In Bafoussam people equally took part in the march despite the heavy military deployment.
In Nkongsamba, at least twenty people have been arrested by security forces for attempting to march.
In Yaounde, the turnout was massive despite military intervention. An estimated sixty (60) protesters were picked up and taken into custody.
Meantime, the residences of Hon. Soup Lazare of the CRM party and Hon. Jean Michel Nintchue of the Social Democratic Front –SDF are reportedly also militarized.
SDF has condemned the militarization of the residence of Hon. Nintchue saying he has nothing to do with the march organized by the CRM party.
The nationwide protest of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement was banned by Cameroonian authorities, stating public disorder and threat to peace in Cameroon as justification for the ban.
Militants of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement party are demanding the release of their militants from prisons alongside the president of the party, professor Maurice Kamto.
They are equally standing against the embezzlement of funds for the organization of the African Cup of Nations 2019 in Cameroon, the poor handling of the Anglophone crisis and electoral fraud in October 2018.
