Nigerian superstar David Adeleke, aka Davido, has once again made history by breaking Spotify Nigeria records with his new single, Funds, featuring fellow Nigerian artists Odumodublvck and Chike. This accomplishment follows his headline-grabbing performance at a royal wedding in India, reportedly earning him a staggering $10 million.
The track, Funds, garnered an impressive 4.82 million streams in its first week, surpassing the previous record of 4.72 million streams held by Wizkid’s Kese.
Known for chart-topping hits like Fall and If, the 31-year-old artist expressed his gratitude for the milestone on Instagram, writing, “We believe in God.” In an interview on The Baller Alert Show, Davido spoke about his decision to collaborate with Odumodublvck and Chike, highlighting his dedication to promoting Nigerian talent. “Why run away from home when everybody is running here now?” he remarked, referring to the global attention on Afrobeat music. He went on to describe Chike as “the Bryson Tiller of Nigeria.”
In addition to his record-breaking success, Davido made waves internationally with his grand entrance in Udaipur, India, where he performed at the royal wedding of Alkesh Thavrani and Sheetal Mazda. Videos of his arrival captured the star stepping off a luxury boat to a reception fit for royalty, complete with flower petals and fanfare.
While online rumors claim he was paid $10 million for the performance, Davido humorously addressed the speculation on Instagram. Tagging the groom, he jokingly wrote, “Where’s my balance?”
