The Headquarters Brigade of Cameroon’s defence forces Friday, February 3, joined 18 couples in matrimony during a mass wedding ceremony organised for cohabitating military officers.

The joined marriage ceremony that held at the Headquarters Brigade premises in Yaounde was solemnised by the First Deputy Mayor of Yaounde III Council, HRH Akamesse Michel Samuel, and was chaired by the Commander of the First Joint Military Region, Brigadier General Ezo’o Mvondo.

The ceremony, which involved both military officers and civilians working at the Headquarters Brigade, aimed to “permit military and civilian personnel in the Ministry of Defence and most especially that of his Brigade to break the chain of cohabiting standing where couples live together in an intimate and committed relationship but are not married to each other,” the Defence Ministry said in a statement.

The newly wedded couples were represented by Senior Warrant Officer Essomba Gaspard Thierry who, in a speech, said the ceremony will have a far reaching impact on their lives.

He thanked his hierarchy for lifting them out of cohabitation or what is commonly referred to as “cam we stay”.

The weddings were formalised by marriage certificates that were offered to the new couples at the ceremony.

This is not the first of mass wedding ceremonies organised by the Ministry of Defence to encourage officers to get legally married.
