Several persons have been injured after some youths of the Makea neighborhood in Douala, Littoral Region stormed the Laquintinie Hospital to protest the killing of their mate by the police.

According to reports, Arafat Zidane, a young man in his twenties was
shot by the security forces a few days back.

Accused of being a member of a group of drug dealers, he was injured by a policeman last Saturday during a police raid in the Makea neighborhood, Douala 2. He succumbed to his injuries around 9:00 AM, yesterday morning (December 12, 2022).

Enraged by the news of his death, some youths armed with machetes and locally made weapons, from the Makea neighborhood decided to storm the hospital using “… indescribable violence … and causing enormous damage,” according a press release from the Director of Laquintinie Professor Noël Essomba.

In the meantime, half a dozen people were injured, both passers-by and some of the enraged youth.

They equally attempted to carry away the remains of their comrade before being caught by the police.

While fleeing from the scene, the angry youths caused panic and fear in various corners of the city of Douala yesterday afternoon.
