The uncle of a 41-year-old groom by the name of Gaétan M. planted what has been described as an explosive device during a wedding reception in Logpom, Douala, Littoral Region.
According to reports, the family of Gaétan had previously opposed his wedding to the 29-year-old woman whom they accused of being barren, in addition to the fact that he had previously dated his cousin.
“… the young woman had been for years with Gaëtan’s cousin. Aggravating circumstance, she did not give him a child,” Cameroun Tribune revealed.
The electrician aware of everything still decided to put the ring on the finger of his beloved. The couple who live in Bepanda “Yong Yong”, went ahead to plan their reception in Logpom.
Before the reception, an uncle of the groom arrived at the celebration ground to leave a message for the newly-wedded couple. He told one of the persons at the entrance, “Ernest, as your friend did not want to obey the family, tell him that the rest will not be as he wishes!” before getting back on a motorbike and leaving the scene.
“When it was time to eat, a church elder rose to bless the meal. It was then a little after 10 p.m. After the prayer, when a hostess started the service for the main table, boom! An explosion under the sideboard,” Cameroun Tribune further narrated.
A cloud of smoke rose immediately, so thick that it darkened the places. According to current reports, no person was hurt, but a good number of the frightened guests evacuated the hall to their various houses, despite all attempts by the couple to bring them back.
Despite being scheduled to last until dawn, the ceremony finally ended around 2 a.m. on Sunday. Gaétan M. said he was not surprised by what happened. He equally reiterated that it is not up to his family to impose a wife on him.
