ELECAM Verdict On Voters In North West, South West Rattles Politicians

The political class in Cameroon is divided over a decision from Elections Cameroon, ELECAM concerning voters in the conflict hit North West and South West regions of the country.

The element which has generated opposing and conflicting reactions from political parties in Cameroon comes from Enow Abrams Egbe, demanding political parties to finance the transportation of internally displaced voters in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon to their respective poling stations on October 7.

A decision which has not been welcomed by political parties in the country especially those of the opposition. Cameroon’s leading opposition party, the Social Democratic Front SDF says it is shocked by such an initiative, which it considers a demonstration of weaknesses by ELECAM.

Hon. Jean-Michel Nintcheu , SDF’s Littoral Regional Chairman says political parties do not dispose the means to assume such responsibilities, hence ELECAM in proposing that, indirectly mean it has resigned from its role of organising and governing elections in Cameroon.

The party of Ni John Fru Ndi and Candidate Osih Joshua however suggests that ELECAM should permit internally displaced voters to vote anywhere they find themselves in Cameroon, as it is done with the military.
Honourable Jean-Michel Nintcheu of SDF littoral says, Bonaberi in Douala 4 Subdivision for example has a huge number of voters displaced from the North West and South West regions of Cameroon, who should be allowed to vote there, than be transported the North West or South West regions to vote.

Soldiers in Cameroon have the right to vote wherever across Cameroon when on mission irrespective of where they registered.

The Cameroon Renaissance Movement of candidate Maurice Kamto on its part accuses the ruling CPDM party of Manoeuvring through ELECAM on this problem to transport and corrupt voters.

Barrister Fidel Njoumbissi of the CRM party says political parties can not afford to transport voters, hence ELECAM which is aware of that, is being manipulated by the CPDM party to buy the consciences of voters, who might finally be transported by them.

Surprisingly, the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement CPDM party says they are ready to transport displaced voters back to the North West and South West regions of Cameroon to vote on October 7.
A militant of the CPDM Zang Zang Charles says the party is working with competent authorities to get these voters back to their polling stations to vote.
