Former workers of the National Shipyard and Industrial Engineering Company (Chantier Naval) Douala staged a protest at the Littoral Regional Delegation of Labour and Social Security today to demand for 16 months of unpaid salaries.
The disgruntled workers were protesting two weeks after Littoral Governor, Samuel Dieudonne Ivaha Deboua ordered for their salaries to be paid them after they staged a similar protest at the Littoral Governor’s Office on September 19, 2018.
The workers met with the Divisional Officer of Douala 1, Jean Marie Tchakoui, yesterday who gave them a note asking them to visit the Regional Delegation of Labour and Social Security to collect their money.
Since yesterday when they arrived the delegates office, they have not been attended to. From the time they were protesting, the Regional Delegate of Labour and Social Security, Madame Sable Angeline, came to the office with the military.
Most of the former workers decry their deplorable living Condition since 2017 when their salaries were withheld.
