Ex-convict soldier, gang arrested for kidnapping businessman in Maroua

An ex-convict military officer and his gang have been arrested for kidnapping a businessman in Maroua, Far North Region of Cameroon.

The gang of three was apprehended in Yaoundé, Centre Region by the forces of law and order.

According to a Gendarme officer, the gang left Yaounde for Maroua where they made use of a fake arrest warrant, permitting them to lay hold of the businessman with ease.

“These three thieves came all the way from Yaounde, they arrived Maroua on the 3rd of August, and they went straight to the house of Mr. Yaya Aboubakary, having with them a fake warrant of arrest,” narrated the Gendarme officer.

“They told him that he is suspected of being involved in the sale of stolen vehicles and they have come to arrest him… A moment later, the man started sending information to his family, indicating that he was instead being kidnapped,” he added.

After successfully reaching the family who in turn alerted the Gendarme officers, a search was launched, leading to the arrest of the gang in Yaounde.

“We found the victim locked down at the back boot of the car, and we also found a pistol and other ammunitions,” disclosed the Gendarme officer.

An investigation has been launched to identify and arrest the other members of the gang who reportedly escaped during the arrest of these three.
