The Police Commissioner of Yagoua, town in the Far North Region, has ordered the arrest of students and pupils found wandering during school hours.

This was disclosed in a statement signed on Sunday, September 18, 2022.

The move, according to the police commissioner is in a bid to combat truancy during the 2022/2023 academic year.

“To this end, any student found wandering in the city during school hours will be arrested and taken to the police station where the parents or heads of establishments will come to bail them,” they official noted.

He urged the various heads of establishments in the town “to urgently report the Office of the Commissioner at the following numbers: 655 976 476, 655 976 478, 655 978 017.”

The rate of truancy and violence in Cameroonian academic milieus has in recent years skyrocketed. It is worsened by violence in the school millieu, often manifested in fights and stabbings.
