Donga Mantung division in the North West region of Cameroon facing is double challenges at the moment. The division is battling to prevent coronavirus but most especially is trying to secure the population from threats of attack by Amba boys.
In a telephone interview with the senior divisional officer for Donga Mantung division, Simon Nkwenti Ndoh, he tells Mimi Mefo Info that one of the sub divisions in the division is still under threats from separatist fighters.
“There is one General Bazil from Akwaja village, Ako sub division. The separatist leader ran into the Federal Republic of Nigeria and since then he and some few boys have been launching sporadic attacks in villages in Ako sub division destroying private and public establishments. This is really an unpatriotic behaviour that we continue to condemn.”
Questioned on what his administration is doing to address the situation, SDO Simon Nkwenti Ndoh says “we are collaborating with officials of Taraba State specifically Abong Local Government Area on how to stop the bad actions committed by persons based in Nigeria.”
A source at Ako town has equally confirm frequent cases of harassment of people despite the fact that life is gradually returning to normal in most places.
Donga Mantung division, the SDO says, has four official entry and exit points with the federal Republic of Nigeria, areas they have placed security forces. The SDO regrets that many other clandestine entry points have however been put in place.
It is in this context of insecurity that government has announced a giant reconstruction plan in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon. The national coordinator and the deputy Paul Tasong and Njong Donatus respectively have been appointed by the prime minister.
How they intend to reconstruct places like Ako sub division where bullets are still flying in the air is what many are waiting to see before they believe.
