A large number of National Identification Cards, ID, have been found around the Carrefour EMIA ad Total Melen neighborhoods in the nation’s capital, Yaoundé.
“The cards were found in a bag dumped under a tree to be disposed with each being at least a year or two to expiry date,” says a source who opted for anonymity.
According to the source, “the ID cards that were displaced, were new and still very much valid. They are alleged to have been discarded by some government authorities.”
In the meantime, some persons are said have rushed to the area to seek if they can identify an pick up theirs.
Nonetheless, it is still not clear how they found themselves there and why they were disposed in such manner.
It should be recalled that getting an identification card remains an uphill task in Cameroon.
Many have had to go for years without one, as the process remains cumbersome, expensive and time consuming.
