Government has been restless since Prof Maurice Kamto, leader of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement party announced a protest.

Ahead of the September 22 show, administrative authorities in different parts of the national territory have taken different measures to prohibit the nationwide protests aimed at chasing out President Paul Biya.

The latest to react is Communication Minister, Rene Emmanuel Sadi.

The minister in a communiqué today says the state has taken note of a planned “insurrection” by a political party.

The party’s planned move, he adds, violates law no. 2014/028 of 23rd December 2014 condemning acts of terrorism also punishable by the penal code.

“…no demonstration can be considered peaceful when its declared intent is to trigger an uprising and overthrow the democratically elected Republican institutions,” Sadi’s communiqué reads.

Those associated with the move, he warns, will be brought to book before the competent judicial authorities.

“In this regard, the defence and security forces will take every necessary step to strictly maintain law and order as well as social peace,” he adds.

Ahead of the September 22 protest, Kamto has among other moves met with a number of political parties, many of which had earlier announced a boycott of the December 6 regional elections.

Among their demands, Kamto and the MRC want government to resolve the Anglophone crisis before any election is held in the country.
