Rights group, Human Rights Watch, HRW has said the arrest of English teacher, Fongang Nathan in the South region is a violation of rights to free expression.
This comes after the teacher was arrested for mentioning jailed opposition leader, Maurice Kamto in class and the Anglophone crisis. Though released after a petition filed by his lawyer, he is restricted from traveling.
His arrest HRW says “is just the latest example of the increasingly restrictive political space in Cameroon”.
Teachers around the world it adds should ” push their students to think critically about current events”.
Two days after Nathan’s arrest it should be recalled, teachers at Avebe-Esse High School where he teaches went on strike Calling for the release of their colleague. Other teachers nationwide have also called for his release.
