Kamto responds to Atanga Nji, warns Biya against interruption of coronavirus initiative

There has been a war of words between Maurice Kamto and the Cameroon government over his SURVIE-CAMEROON-SURVIVAL INITIATIVE (SCSI). In response to Minister Atanga Nji who termed it illegal, Prof Kamto today congratulated donors and sympathisers, adding that the minister’s reaction “is prompted by the exceptional outpouring of solidarity shown by Cameroonians from the interior and diaspora.”

“The illegal and illegitimate regime of Mr Biya has just crossed the red line,” he said, adding that “he (Biya) will take full responsibility for this heinous and barbaric act before history.”

Stating that “all democratically elected or de facto leaders are at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19” Prof Kamto said Cameroon is the only exception. President Biya’s government he adds fails to live up to its commitment to carter for its citizens “as stipulated in particular in the African charter on human and peoples rights.”

With regards to the supposed illegality of the SCSI” Kamto says it “falls under the legal and moral requirement of assistance for the populations in danger… The SCSI is a self-organisation of the sovereign Cameroonian people in a range of death to ensure their survival. It does not fall into the category of associations provided for by the legislation in force and cannot, therefore, violate this legislation.”

Government’s nonchalance about its citizens he further noted can be seen in huge amounts spent for drinks during the end of year feast at the Unity Palace and the AFCON organisation as compared to the amount dedicated for the fight against coronavirus.

Authorities he adds remained silent in the face of other humanitarian work including donations to the Ayah Foundation and blood donation for soldiers engaged in the war against Boko Haram but are speaking up against the coronavirus fight.

“Everyone can, therefore, see that the preservation of the lives of Cameroonians is far from being a priority for the government of Biya. We are not going to let our collective efforts be wiped out by selfish people who want to deliver you to death.”

“Cameroon doesn’t belong to a few individuals, certainly not to those who have been taking you, hostage, for so many years. Stay mobilised. As a good response to them, participate even more massively” he encouraged.

Revealing that a number of cyber attacks have been targeted at the site meant for the donation of funds to SCSI, Kamto says “those who fraudulently duplicate the domain name are trapped. You will be informed of their real or impersonated identity.”

“Teams are being set up to prepare necessary logistics intended in particular to protect you with masks” he added.

Faced with what he described as the absurd attitude of the regime “be ready if necessary to create a popular power balance with the regime that is suffocating them to save themselves from the coronavirus by solidarity, the driving force of which everyone has seen” Kamto told sympathisers.

President Biya he warned “will be solely responsible for what will happen to any slippage during the peaceful distribution of assistance to the population… The authorities decided to sacrifice the people at the altar of their pride.”

Addressing Biya’s absence since March 11th, the politician says “he (Biya) may soon appear at any time to play the expected messiah. This will not change anything in our assessment of the situation. He has shown by his unexplained disappearance for more than a month that he is no longer up to the heavy task he has set himself and that in any case, he is a deserter commander in chief.”

“I now call on the international community to mobilise to help save the Cameroonian people left to their own faith in this war against COVID-19” he declared.
