Man who won Mr. Ugly for the 5th time bags $500 and a cow

A 48-year-old Zimbabwean man has clinched the Mr. Urgly title for the fifth time, expressing pride in his unique achievement. William Masvinu, who won the annual Mr. Ugly competition, said the event’s aim was to celebrate beauty in unconventional forms. Organisers describe the contest as a platform to offer “ugly” individuals the same opportunities as their “more traditionally attractive” counterparts.

Masvinu, now a well-known figure in his community, says he plans to elevate his success to the international stage. He also admitted that he had already seen a boost in fame and secured a few minor marketing contracts. For his latest win, Masvinu received a cash prize of $500 and a cow.

When he won the same competition in 2023, Masvinu said, “No one can dispute that I am the ugliest person in Zimbabwe. I now want to take my ugliness outside the country. If there is a Mr. Ugly World, I am confident I will bring the crown to Zimbabwe.”

Masvinu previously lost the title to Sere in 2015, amidst criticisms that Sere’s appearance was merely due to missing teeth. Masvinu reclaimed the title the following year.

Despite his unconventional fame, Masvinu has always viewed his appearance as a divine gift. His wife, reportedly, finds solace in the fact that her husband’s distinct looks diminish the likelihood of other women vying for him.
