More Cameroonians cry foul over Mali work scam

It is no news that many Cameroonians have fallen victim to a network of conmen promising them jobs only to end up milking them off their hard-earned money.

Despite the numerous warnings and uncertainty surrounding the scam, many continue to fall victim to it.

A latest victim has called out the network, stating that they use well-dressed and good-looking men as well as fake contracts to perform the trick.

“I am still in Mali all frustrated. I arrived on Friday with about 10 other Cameroonians,” he testifies.

“I called my friend and he switched me to an agent. They brought me to certain house where I am writing from. I’ve had no food since I arrived. All the money I had with me is finished,” he says, adding that all attempts to reach his loved ones for support have proven futile.

“A friend of mine got scammed. He sent the kid brother over there and they asked for money which he sent but later the kid brother had to come back because work that was promised did not come,” says yet another individual.

The first payment (made via a money transfer agency) he says, was 500,000FCFA. The family he adds, later sent more for the victim’s upkeep.

“They told him he will work for four months without pay so they see his competence. They also promised to give him a house,” he explains.

The job, he says, never came.
