Athletes from the North West Region of Cameroon have won most of the prizes to mark the 25th edition of Mount Cameroon Race of Hope Saturday February 22nd 2020.
In the men’s category, Godlove Gabsibuim from Nwa in Donga Mantung division in the North West came the 1st position. The 5 times winner of the race made it up and down the mountain in four hours 36 minutes. Godlove Gabsibuim it should be noted won in 2012, 2013,2015 and 2018.
Speaking to reporters at the Molyko Omnisport stadium in Buea, Gabsibuim says “I had the confidence that i will win because I trained well and equally because my main challenger Mbacha Eric was absent”. He bags home the sum of 10 million francs cfa.
Simplise Ndougue from Fako in the South West came the 2nd position grabbing the sum of 7 million francs cfa. While Elvis Nsambila from the North West mounted the podium in the third position in the Men’s category and harvested three million .
In the female category, Tata Carine dominates her female folk running the mountain in 5 hours 23 minutes. Tata Carine from the North West wins this year for the third time given that she emerged champion in 2018 and 2019.
Kitan Mildred and Wirngo Fuhfainla came the second and third position respectively.
In the junior category, Saidou Habila Modi from Donga Mantung in the North West came the first position, Yaya Iliasou second from the South west while Saidou Momi from the North West came third.
Athletes from the North West lament that most of their training sessions were interrupted by the high level of insecurity forcing many of them to take refuge in other regions to train well.
A total of 520 athletes from seven countries participated in the race this year.
The minister of sports and physical education, Narcise Moulle Kombi and the president of the national athletic Federation Emmauel Motomy Mbome have appreciated the race that was placed under the theme “let’s give peace a chance”.
