In the neighbourhood of Bilongue, situated in Douala, the economic capital of Cameroon, a fresh assault by microbes has resulted in at least one person being injured. The incident unfolded on the afternoon of Friday, December 22, 2023.
The armed assailants raided the area, robbing multiple shops, absconding with substantial amounts of money, and using a machete to injure a woman, as per reports.
A concerned source lamented, “People are sitting quietly in their shops. They come out from nowhere to attack them with machetes. How should they be careful?”
Questions regarding the competence of security forces in ensuring the safety of the population during such incidents have been raised. Jodel Ayems expressed dissatisfaction, stating, “Our forces of law and order only know how to control the National Identity Cards in the Jambo rooms.”
The notorious group of robbers, known as “Les Microbes,” has previously wreaked havoc in Douala. Typically armed with sharp objects like knives, cutlasses, and razor blades, they are also known for their consumption of hard drugs such as marijuana and cocaine.
Having gained notoriety two years ago, ‘Les Microbes’ have consistently assaulted and attacked Douala residents, particularly in Deido and New Bell. This incident follows a grim event earlier in the year when a man named Tonye was fatally stabbed while attempting to escape from the same gang.
Sources reveal that five armed men, wielding machetes and knives, patrolled the area, snatching wallets and cell phones from passersby when the tragic incident occurred.
