Buea-based software developer, has raised an alarm after an encounter with security officers on January 16, 2021.
In a Facebook post, he claims he was harassed and intimidated by the security officers who accused him of being a scammer after searching his phone (without a warrant) and finding a BTC Wallet.
After being dragged to the station, the developer says the gendarme officer forcefully collected the sum of 50,500 FCFA from him (40500frs via Mobile Money and 10000frs Cash).
A screenshot showing the transaction has since been making wave on social media, with many calling on authorities to hunt for the said gendarme believed to be Olivier Ismael Ndzie Matti according to the mobil money payment receipt message.
As has been the case in past instances of police brutality, authorities have maintained a deafening silence, one which observers have often interpreted to mean complicity.
The silence of authorities is not only empowering the said security operatives, but is also choking down victims who are becoming more scared to talk for fear of being harmed.
