At least 55 inmates will be released from the Bamenda Central Prison.

A court session held this morning following yesterday’s decision by President Paul Biya to release 333 persons arrested within the context of the Anglophone crisis.
On his facebook page, president Biya said : ‘I have ordered the discontinuance of proceedings pending before Military Tribunals against 333 persons arrested for misdemeanours, in connection with the crisis in the North-West and South-West Regions’.
In communique signed by Minister of State, Secretary General at the presidency of the Republic, Ferdinand Ngongoh, the head of state reaffirms his determination to seek a lasting solution to the crisis.
Some have however said the move is not enough, saying, key actors involved in the conflict must be released.
According to rights groups, over a thousand persons are still being detained because of the crisis.
