Professor Maurice Kamto, presidential candidate of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement Party, has said he is ready to be the 3rd president of Cameroon.
He said the incumbent Paul Biya has done his best throughout his 36-year stay in power but it is time to retire and hand over power to those who can transform the crumbling, epileptic and unstable economy of Cameroon.
“Before Paul Biya, there was peace in Cameroon and after Biya, there will be peace in Cameroon…,” Professor Maurice Kamto said told thousands of supporters and sympathisers in Yaoundé during a rally on Sunday.
The 64-year-old university don pledged to protect Paul Biya and his family if he accepts to leave power. Maurice Kamto said he is sure of a victory and urged his supporters to protect their votes.
A similar message was preached by a renown Cameroonian musician, Valsero, who declared for Kamto.
“We know we have won…don’t dare rig the election… I am talking to the Minister of Territorial Administration and to ELECAM… If you play games we will raise our voices,” Valsero declared at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium where thousands gathered on Sunday to witness the CRM mega rally.
Maurice Kamto has promised to reform the military corps, provide basic healthcare free of charge and ensure the gratuity of caesarean operations in Cameroon. The fight against corruption will also be one of the priorities of Professor Kamto’s government.
“The first decision I will take will be the signing of decree on the implementation of article 66 of the constitution on the declaration of assets. I will be the first to declare my asset,” Maurice Kamto told a huge crowd in Yaoundé on Sunday.
Maurice Kamto has described the English-speaking population as his beloved brothers and promised to visit them as soon as he assumes office.
