Cameroon’s Public Health Minister, Dr. Manaouda Malachie has reprimanded Orock Enow George, Director of the Bafoussam, Regional Hospital in the West Region after the latter imposed a compulsory sum of 50,000 FCFA before admission.

In a release published earlier, the Director of the institution, Orock Enow George noted that patience will henceforth be compelled to pay the sum of 50, 000 FCFA before they can be admitted to the Hospital.

“As of the date of signature of this note, any patient entering the hospital must deposit a deposit of 50,000F (Fifty thousand francs) for their care; otherwise, he will not be admitted to the hospital,” he indicated.

He furthered that any staff who admits a patient without the payment of the above-mentioned amount, “… will be obliged to pay the bills of the latter.”

Reacting to the release, the Minister of public Health noted that such a decision is not part of a legal anchoring of the management of health facilities.

“… with the policy of humanization of care prescribed by the President of the Republic, the access of all Cameroonians to a health facility should not be conditioned by any discriminatory approach, likely to deny them the right to health, considered as a fundamental human right,” reiterated Dr. Manaouda Malachie.

In this light, another release was circulated by the Director of the Bafoussam Regional Hospital which annulled the previous release.

The situation has left several Cameroonians to question the competence of the administrative officials put in place by the current government.
