A Nigerian university student arrested and detained for more than two weeks after he allegedly defamed President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife on Twitter has apologised to the first lady.
He made an apology shortly after he was released on Friday, December 2, 2022.
He was arraigned before a Nigerian Court on allegations of defaming Aisha Buhari, wife of Nigerian President.
In a court hearing, Aminu denied allegations against him for spreading false information.
He had in a tweet which he denied in court said Aisha Buhari misused public money to her satisfaction.
The charges were later dropped based on what the court said were compassionate grounds.
Aminu in a tweet over the weekend tendered an apology for his previous tweets.
“I would like to use this medium to express my sincere apologies to those I have hurt especially our mother, Aisha Buhari,” Aminu tweeted adding that, “it was never my intention to hurt you and ‘insha Allah’ I will change for the better. However for your forgiveness, thank you mama.”
It is however unclear whether Aminu was bullied into making an apology or it was voluntary.
