Officials of the North West regional delegation of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, have indicated that there has been a significant increase in the number of newly registered voters in the electoral register this year.
The officials disclosed that over 3,000 electors from across the region have registered as opposed to just 20 voters in three divisions in August last year.
The head of service for Communication and Documentation at the North West delegation of Elections Cameroon, reveals that the Mezam Division has registered the highest number of registered voters since January 2021 with more than 1800 newly registered, followed by Boyo with over 450.
The increase, according to the officials, is due to improved collaboration with security forces that enabled them to visit the Divisions to get new electors. They say some members of the elite, political class, and political parties sensitized their population on the need to register.
The registration on the electoral list closed on August 31 at midnight.
