For the first time in many months, Fon Yakum Kevin Shomintang II, traditional ruler of Bambalang, a Fondom in Ngoketunja division of the restive North West region has appeared in a clip after being abducted.
The traditional ruler who is also the President of the North House of Chiefs and Vice President of the regional executive council was picked December 7, 2021 by separatist Ambazonia fighters loyal to General No Pity, a dreaded armed separatist commander.
Fon Shomintang had just arrived his village for the annual Sha’ahtang cultural festival before he was abducted.
In a video released Sunday November 27, 2022 obtained by MMI, he said he is being kept by General No Pity.
The viral video according to MMI’s findings was recorded in an undisclosed location on November 13, 2022.
Speaking in pidgin English, he appealed to the government to heed to the demands of the separatists.
“Good morning everyone this day November 13, 2022. I am Fon Yakum Kevin Shomintang II, Fon of Bambalang” , the Fon said, adding that, “I cry out this day because I am under the keeping of No Pity and he has said if his family members who were arrested by the government are not released, he will not release me”.
He continued: “… I plead through this medium to the powers that be to facilitate the release of his (No Pity) family members so that I can also be free from here.Thank you very much”
The government has not issued any statement so far.
It should be recalled that atleast seven of No Pity’s family members including his parents were arrested and detained by government forces since July 2021
The separatist commander had in a reaction threatened to cause havoc if his family members were not released, before abducting the traditional ruler months after.
