Soldiers forced my brother to dress like an Amba boy – Anglophone crisis victim tells MMI

The Cameroon army has for the past months been engaged in a deadly battle against Ambazonia fighters in the North West and South West regions.

The conflict has since left over three thousand dead and more displaced and in need of aid.

As part of the fight, government has often presented persons alleged to be Ambazonian fighters both dead and alive as proof of its winning the war.

Some of such instances many hold however, have been more of shows than real life happenings. Talking to MMI, Nelson (not real name) a resident of Jakiri in the North West region says his brother was arrested days back among others by soldiers that visited the village.

The soldiers Nelson says asked them to dress like Amba boys “but they refused and the military forcefully put that (weapons) infront of them”.

The owner of the construction site where the boys were arrested Nelson explains tried to defend the boys “was shot on the hand and is hospitalized at the Bansso Baptist Hospital in kumbo”.

“They were released yesterday afternoon after a strong intervention by the DO of Jakiri” Nelson says.

Nelson says he feels bad as without seeking any explanation, “someone posted them on the internet as Ambazonians and some were commenting let them be killed”.

“My brother is now hospitalized because of the beatings they gave him” he adds.

Like Nelson’s brother, several Anglophones have maintained their innocence despite being tagged as Ambazonian fighters by government officials and security operatives. Many are still in detention facilities across the country awaiting trial in notably deplorable conditions.
