South Africa’s Health Ministry announced on Sunday the country has recorded over a million cases of the Coronavirus with new cases of the fast spreading Coronavirus variant also confirmed.

“Today, we have breached one million cumulative cases of COVID-19 in South Africa, with a cumulative total of 1,004,413 cases reported,” the ministry said.

The country’s Coronavirus death toll also rose to 26,735 as hospital staff cancelled their breaks due to high influx of patients.

Since the South African Government confirmed the deadly and fast spreading Coronavirus variant called 501.V2, some countries have closed borders with the country also banning South African nationals.

South Africa has the highest Coronavirus infections in Africa, followed by Morocco and Egypt.
