Cameroonian soldiers have killed several suspected separatist fighters in Babessi, a locality in Ngoketunjia Division, North West Region.

A source affirms that they were killed in an ambush after soldiers found their hideout this morning.
“The military discovered their camp, went and settled there and then ambushed them. They came in, hoisted their flag, sang their anthem, brought their hostages before what they call their justice system and started questioning them and the military opened fire, killing most of the amba boys. Others escaped,” the source narrates.

The suspected separatist fighters are believed to not have been the only victims.
Our source adds that “some hostages too were killed… A gun battle is still ongoing. The military is still firing there.”

Official sources are yet to comment on today’s operation. It is one of several others in the troubled North West and South West regions.

Since the Anglophone crisis developed into an armed conflict, government has maintained that its soldiers remain professional, and have not harmed the civilian population in any way.
