Some workers abducted by gunmen in Ekok, South West region are said to have been freed.

“People around the community went searching and later found them in the hands of the kidnappers” a source reveals.

The victims he further confirms, were Nigerians.

The workers, all porters were kidnapped at a beach where they were loading and offloading goods.

Reports say four of the victims were able to escape but others were not so lucky.

Their abductors would later demand the sum of five million FCFA to secure their release.

Due to the closure of the Cameroon-Nigeria border, the river has remained a vital means of transportation of goods by business persons

The kidnapping incident has left many residents of Ekok bothered, as they fear it indicates an increase in insecurity in the days ahead.
